Access Statement


Bluegate Farm Self Catering Holiday Cottages are based on a working farm easily accessed by car and has limited public transport services.


There is phone, fax and email availability.

Large Print information is available on request.

There is a bus service that runs to and from various places in the village; there is a train station in the nearest town which is 3 miles away. There are also many good taxi services in the area.

The nearest shop-mobility scheme is 7 miles away in Luton.

Accessible taxis are available.

It is advisable for the guests to be accompanied depending on disability.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

There is car parking available for up to 6 cars.

There is a drop off point within 10 metres of entrance.

The car park is gravel; the entrance is smooth paved with a path of 1.5metres wide.

There is no dropped kerb.

There are well placed security lights and porch lights so that the area is well lit at night.

No steps or ramps on route to entrance, it is on level.

Main Entrance

There is a small permanent step in one cottage of 75mm in entrance, it is smooth surfaced.

There is a seat at entrance, in case rest is required.

The majority of light is natural light; however there is spot lights and wall lights.

A tour of the cottages is given on guest arrival.

All doors are single leaf; side hung and have a width of 800mm.

The entrance door has a threshold and a doormat on either side.

There is a colour contrast on critical surfaces.

Outdoor Facilities

There is a smooth paved seating area at front of cottage.

There is a communal lawn.

These are lit at night by security lights and porch lights.


Bedroom doors are 750mm in width.

The rooms are floored with medium pile carpet.

There are ceiling lights and lamps.

Each cottage has got a double bed in the upstairs and twin beds in the ground floor rooms. All the beds are 600mm high including the mattress.

There is level access to rooms.

There is colour contrast between critical surfaces.

Bathrooms and En-Suites

The twin bedrooms are en-suite on ground floor; there are adjacent shared bathrooms to the double bedrooms on first floor.

The bathrooms are approximately 2metres by 2.5metres square. They are floored with non slip vinyl.

There is a 1.2metre square area of unobstructed clear floor space.

There is 270mm step into shower. There is one shower head with thermostatic mixer controlled with a manual lever tap.

The bath height entry is 450mm with lever taps.

The basin has a thermostatic mixer with lever tap.

The height of the toilet seat is 400mm.


The kitchen is the entrance area of Self Catering cottage.

There is thermostatically controlled water available from a lever style tap.

The work surface and sink height is of standard height.

There is a hob, low level oven and freestanding microwave available, all electric.

Crockery is in wall cupboards approximately 1.6metres off the ground. Cutlery is in draw 800mm off ground. Cookware is placed on top of work units.

The kitchen is horseshoe shaped, with a middle area of 1.8metres by 3metres square.

The floor is smooth tiled.

The room is lit with spot lights and task lights below all units.

There is colour contrast on critical surfaces.

The fridge/freezer unit has the fridge on top is within the kichen dimensions and is easily accessible.
